Current Courier Conditions

Due to higher than normal call volumes, any orders placed after 1:15pm on Friday, September 24th will be subject to delayed service or next day pickup/delivery.  If we are unable to pick up your order today, a Sierra representative will make alternate pickup/delivery arrangements.  If you have any questions regarding this notice, please don't hesitate to call our office.

Good. Fast. Cheap. You can choose any two, as dictated by the classic Project Management Triangle.

While plenty of businesses claim to be able to circumvent this rule, very few are able to even make a dent in two of these attributes, let alone score a perfect three.

At Sierra Courier, we can’t claim to be the exception. While we provide services that satisfy all three of these constraints, it’s simply not possible to do it all at once.

We will not compromise on quality. All of our work is done to the most exacting standards that we can achieve. Your package will be picked up by a professional courier at the prearranged time, and delivered to its destination where, when, and how you specify.

The other two points on the triangle are inextricably linked. The faster you need delivery, the more it is going to cost. This isn’t because we are gouging you (at Sierra Courier, we do our best to keep all of our rates extremely competitive), but when you need something rushed to its destination, our costs go up. Unfortunately, we have to pass some of them on to you. That’s why our pricing schedule is partly based on the urgency of delivery. It’s much more economical to ship something by ground than by air, and it’s cheaper when we can schedule a single truck to make ten deliveries than to send it out to make just one.

The best thing that you can do to mitigate the premium you pay for rush courier service is to plan ahead. Even a little bit of advance notice can dramatically lower the cost of your shipment.

Sometimes emergencies arise. Sierra Courier is prepared. We offer lightning quick in-town transportation, and Canadian and international air service. When it absolutely needs to be there yesterday, we’ll do our best to disrupt the space-time continuum and come as close as humanly possible. It won’t be “cheap” when compared with slower shipping methods, but our prices are designed to be fair and competitive.

To arrange transport of your package, no matter how tight your timeline, call Sierra Courier toll free 866-575-ASAP (2727) or 204-632-8920 from the Winnipeg area. You can also personally drop your items off at 1200 King Edward Street in Winnipeg, and we’ll send it on its way from there.

When it comes to making deliveries in Winnipeg, Sierra Courier is the local expert.  We have a dedicated fleet of cars, trucks, and bicycles at our disposal, as well as a staff that’s highly experienced and dedicated to serving your needs, however tight your timelines.

We are proud of our ability to get packages where they need to be, on time every time.  Here’s some of our “greatest hits”:

Mission #1 – Downtown Delivery

7 minutes, .75 kilometers

Handled by a dedicated downtown driver, an envelope went from the 400 block of St. Mary Ave. to the 100 Block of Donald St., across the Midtown Bridge. The order for this delivery came at 4:08 PM.  We were able to have the package at the destination by 4:15 PM.

Mission #2 – Alive and Kicking

25 minutes, 10.7 kilometers

Occasionally, our customers hire us to transport live animals.  As you can imagine, rapid delivery benefits everyone (including the driver), so we always do our best to ensure minimum stress for sensitive cargo.  We picked up an order from Freedman Crescent and delivered it to the 300 block of Tache Ave.  The order came at 8:29 AM, and the animals made it to their destination in time for their morning meeting at 8:54 AM.

Mission #3 – High Speed Samples

17 minutes, 10.6 kilometers

When customers need to deliver medical samples in a hurry, the often choose Sierra.  We transported a package from the 400 Block of Tache Ave. to the Cargo Area at the airport.  We received our order for this delivery at 4:45 PM and the package was ready for its connecting flight by 5:02 PM.

None of the above deliveries were made so rapidly because we were careless.  Our drivers are very conscientious.  It’s because of our organization, communication, and use of state-of-the-art GPS technologies that we’re able to deliver amazing results for our customers, time after time. We don’t promise to break a land speed record every time we deliver a package, but we do pledge to do our best to do you and your business proud by delivering you package (and our excellent service) every chance we get.

If you’ve ever been involved in a trade show, then you know what we’re talking about when we say they’re a really, really big deal.

If you need to attend a trade show or convention, you need to prepare yourself to spend hours or even days on your feet, exchanging information and making contacts that will provide huge opportunities for you and the business you’re representing.  You’ll get up early and work really late.

Remember, if Apple hadn’t taken their product to the West Coast Computer Faire in 1977, you might not be reading this on a computer screen.

The last thing you want to be worrying about is how you’re going to get the materials you need to the exhibition site, and then back to home base.

That’s where Sierra Courier comes in.  We understand trade shows.  We know that when the doors open on Saturday morning, you absolutely must have your materials and display set up and ready.  We have professional, courteous staff who can get your stuff smoothly to any convention facility in North America.  And with eTrac, you can track your shipment’s every move from any connected device.

Whether you’ve got just a few boxes of brochures, or a full trailer load of equipment, we are Winnipeg’s courier company of choice for trade show deliveries.  We’ve been in the business since 1976, and in that time we’ve delivered a whole lot of goods.  We understand how important a Trade Show is to business, and we’ll do our flat-out best to ensure that you can focus on what’s important, and not worry about the logistics of moving your trade show materials.

And we’re doing it by keeping them, and a lot of other people, on the streets. We’re putting them to work as courier drivers.

Being an independent contractor for Sierra is a pretty sweet gig. How many people can say that they get to set their own hours? We cooperate with our contractors to ensure that they work when they want, doing the types of pickups and deliveries that they want. They control their own routes, and set up their deliveries themselves.

Why do I want to work with Sierra Courier?

If you’ve spent your whole career working for other people, freedom can be very refreshing. It’s one of the reasons that this arrangement attracts many people who have retired from other careers.

As an independent contractor working for Sierra Courier, you are self-employed. You get to enjoy a lot of the benefits and freedoms of being your own boss.

We pay straight commission per delivery, which means that the more you do, the more you earn. This is a rare opportunity in a world where companies are trying to get the most out of their employees for the least. We allow our contractors to bid for particular routes for regular customers, and time slots for on-demand deliveries. As an added incentive, you can grow your business by hiring drivers and putting additional vehicles on the road.

What kind of person makes a great independent contractor?

You need to have a reliable late model vehicle, a driver’s license, and a good knowledge of Winnipeg. We require you to sign our independent contractors agreement. Also, you’ve got to look presentable – while we’ve got nothing personal against anyone with a

Sierra Courier is located at 1200 King Edward St. in Winnipeg.

Sierra Courier has been in business for 37 years. In that time, we’ve seen just about every crazy condition that Canadian winter can throw at us. We have drivers and vehicles on the road all the time, not just when it’s nice and sunny out.

All Sierra Courier vehicles and drivers are as winter-proof as we can make them. That goes for our independent contractors, too.

Here are some of the things we’ve learned about travelling when the weather is less than co-operative that we’d like to share with you:

  1. If you don’t have to be on the road, don’t do it. There aren’t that many things that are worth risking life and limb by driving in true blizzard conditions for. Better to be home, wishing you were at hockey practice, thank stuck in a snowdrift halfway to the arena wishing you were at home.
  2. Communication is key. In a weather emergency, a charged cellphone or working CB radio can bring help when you need it most. It can also help you help others. All Sierra Courier drivers are connected at all times, and have helped countless others when their services were needed. Local couriers to the rescue! If you don’t have a mobile communication device, be sure that someone knows where you’re going, and the route you plan to take. That way, if there’s an emergency, people will know where to look for you.
  3. Make sure your vehicle is winter-ready. Ensure you have adequate tires (snows are best), your lights work, and the wipers and washer-fluid are up to the task. Have your mechanical systems checked in the fall, including the coolant and the battery. A breakdown that’s a minor inconvenience in the summer can spell real trouble in the dead of Winnipeg winter.
  4. This is the one thing we can’t stress enough: Drive according to the weather conditions! This means slow down when the bad stuff starts falling from the sky. While getting your package where it needs to be on time, every time is important to us, we do our absolute make it happen without endangering anyone. Our motto for our drivers is “Fast on your feet, not in the seat.”

Sierra Courier would like to take this opportunity to ask that all of our drivers, employees, customers, and potential customers (so, yeah, pretty much everybody) be safe this winter!
