Tastes vary from person to person, and some believe themselves to be the connoisseurs of new and interesting cuisine. At Sierra Courier, we consider our drivers the connoisseurs of Winnipeg deliveries – up to and including Ram Testicles. No, you didn’t read that incorrectly, we did say Ram Testicles and they were for consumption purposes.

One of our strangest shipments which made us curious about the origin of testicle consumption in cuisine. This tradition started in Iceland as part of Bóndadagur, "Husband's Day". This is a time where wives show a token of their love by serving their dried fish, smoked lamb, putrefied shark and soured blood and liver pudding along with other soured meat products, including hrútspungar (pickled ram's testicles). That’s one way of saying I love you!

This experiment in consumption in nothing new and in fact is becoming a world wide trend with festivals throughout the United States and Canada. There are also a number of health benefits including cellulite reduction. Give them a try!

Ram’s Testicles in Honey Sauce with Sweet Potato Chips

INGREDIENTS
For 2 serving(s)

4 ram's testicles, prepared
10ml mild chili powder
2.5ml cinnamon
15ml flower honey
150g butter
1 nice sweet potato
oil
salt

METHOD

Toss the ram’s testicles gently in salt without crushing them and rinse in fresh water.
Rinse several times, then slice into strips and drain on paper towel.
Meanwhile, peel the sweet potato and slice thinly – use a mandolin to save time.
Heat the frying oil in a skillet and cook the sweet potato slices until crispy. Drain and place on paper towels. Salt and set aside.
Melt the butter in a skillet and add the spices (paprika, cinnamon, cumin), stirring with a spatula to blend the ingredients well.
Add the sliced ram’s testicles and cook for a few minutes before adding the honey. Cook over high heat for several minutes.
Remove the ram’s testicles and keep hot.
Make the sauce: reduce the cooking juices to form a sweet, slightly-thickened sauce.
Serve the ram’s testicles with the sweet potato chips and spoon the sauce over top.
